If you love taffy and you’d love to learn how it can be made at home, read on and you will find out about two recipes you can do at home.
This recipe is made with three cornstarch tablespoons, one cup of syrup of light corn, two and a half cups of sugar, one teaspoon of salt, one and a third cups of water, two tablespoons of butter (and some extra butter to put on the hands), half a teaspoon of vanilla and a small package of drink mix that is fruit flavored and unsweetened. Kool Aid is one of the drink mixes that can be used in this recipe.
Once you have all the ingredients, put the butter either on a cookie sheet or on a jelly roll pan.
The cornstarch and the sugar are stirred together, in a saucepan of medium size. You can add water, salt, butter and corn syrup in it, stirring until the butter melts. Bring the mix to a boil, on medium heat and once that happens stop the stirring. Use a candy thermometer, to find out when the cooked mixture reaches a temperature of 120 degrees Celsius (250 F). Getting to that temperature will take a bit of time. When the temperature approaches the 250 degrees mark, be careful, as it starts cooking fast when the end approaches. Take it out from the heat immediately once that happens. Put vanilla inside and mix as you do that. Stir very well, so you don’t get dark spots in the taffy. The mixture should be poured on a baking pan that is buttered. Let it cool for a while, until it can be handled. Once it is cool and it can be handled, put butter on your hands and start to pull it. After about a quarter of hour of pulling, the taffy will lighten in color and become opaque.
The taffy should be pulled in long ropes after that. You should use buttered scissors to cut it.
Taffy Apple Salad Recipe
This taffy apple salad that is made at home will have the same taste as taffy apples, and it’s a great recipe to do during the holidays. Your family will no doubt love it. Ideally, you should use red apples for this recipe. The apple should be cut in very small pieces and sprinkled with some fruit fresh, so it doesn’t go brown. Since it is cool, crisp and a bit salty, many people enjoy it.
The ingredients used for this taffy recipe are one egg; a chunk of pineapple of 16 oz; four cups of small marshmallows; one teaspoon of all purpose flour; half a cup of granulated sugar; one teaspoon and a half of white vinegar; Cool whip 8 oz; two or three cups of apples that are diced, with the skin left on them; one cup of Spanish peanuts.
The marshmallows and the pineapple should be mixed in a bowl and set aside. Blend the sugar, the flour, the vinegar and the egg in a saucepan. It should be mixed and cooked until it thickens, at a medium heat. Let it cool after that. The nuts, apples, marshmallow mixture and cool whip should be folded in the flour. The salad of taffy apples should be put in a bowl and refrigerated until it can be served.
